Leading Lady Dr. Bonnie Dunbar

Dr. Bonnie Dunbar, the 9th woman in space, is a woman of many firsts! NASA Astronaut and an American engineer, Dr. Dunbar participated in five NASA Space Shuttle missions, including two that docked with Russian space station Mir. Dr. Dunbar is the first astronaut to qualify for Long-Duration Space Station Mir Flights, she is the first woman who was assigned to operate a Spacelab, she served as a Payload Commander for the first U.S. microgravity laboratory, the USML-1, she is the first woman from the state of Washington to become an Astronaut, she is also the first woman to graduate with a master's degree from the department of Mining, Metallurgical and Ceramic Engineering at the University of Washington, the First Woman to work in a full time professional position in the Computer Services Division at Boeing's Space Center in Kent, Washington, and she helped play a critical role in building the cooperative relationship that exists still today between the United States, Russia, and China, allowing the international  alliance to occur between NASA, and the Federal Space Agency, and China's National Space Administration.
