Leading Lady Dr. Svetlana Savitskaya

Dr. Svetlana Savitskaya, Cosmonaut and woman extraordinaire, became the second woman in space on August 18, 1982. Svetlana has quite a story! Do you know it? By the time she turned 17, Svetlana was was well on her way to becoming a World Record-breaking parachutist with 450 jumps under her belt. Her parents learned about her secret hobby when her father, who served as Commander of the Soviet Air Defense Forces, found a knife she used to cut her parachute chords, and her secret was out! 

Svetlana went on to become the First Woman to Fly to Space Twice, and she is also the First Woman to Spacewalk! I hope that you want to learn more about Svetlana. There is so much more!
