Leading Lady Dr. Susan La Flesche Picotte

Dr. Susan La Flesche Picotte was a member of the Omaha Native American Indian Tribe. She became the first Indigenous woman to earn a medical degree, and she was the first person to receive aid for professional education in the United States. She served as the reservation Healthcare Provider. She was a reservation prohibition lobbyist, an advocate, a social reformer, and a suffragist.

Dr. La Flesche Picotte selflessly served the people of the Omaha reservation, spanning over 450 miles. Learn all about her life’s work  and passion for keeping the Omaha Native American Indian Tribal people healthy.
