Leading Lady Emma Lazarus

Emma Lazarus is a special edition to the Leading Ladies of Suffrage collection. Emma didn't march for Suffrage. She was an advocate for immigrants. She was a poet, a writer, and a translator who spent her childhood education learning multiple languages and translating German poetry. 

Emma worked with tutors who taught her multiple languages, and by her teens she was a published author of several collections of poetry. She is best known for the lines of a sonnet. Her piece, The New Colossus, is inscribed on the pedestal of The Statue of Liberty.

Her words are as well known as the work they are carved on. Many think of the echoes of the lines of The New Colossus as the message of The Statue herself.
