Leading Lady Dr. Valentina Tereshkova

The Leading Lady Paper Doll made in honor of Cosmonaut Dr. Valentina Tereshkova is the first to be re-released in the return of my series honoring women in Space. The Leading Ladies in Flight & The Space Age series is an honor to create.

Dr. Valentina Tereshkova orbited Earth 48 times on a solo flight over three days in June 1963. She is the only woman to have completed a solo mission in Space, and the only woman to have completed a solo mission in Space, which lasted 2 days 22 hours and 50 minutes aboard the Russian Spacecraft Vostok 6. 

Valentina broke the mold. While many women will be honored for their tireless work leading up to this accomplishment, and for the incredible advancements since, Valentina will always hold this remarkable achievement, and for that we honor her bravery and intellect. Learn about the work Valentina did to prepare for her time in orbit, and how she wouldn't have survived the landing without reworking the math on her own based on her observation of the pitch and angle of her trajectory. There are good reasons for the nickname she has been given, "The Woman of Iron."
