The Juneteenth Leading Lady Paper Doll. Designed as part of my series "Leading Ladies", the Juneteenth Leading Lady is Always FREE. The elements utilized from head to toe tell the story of generations of humans crossing oceans, bringing traditions, languages, and an unbreakable spirit with which this country's foundation was forcibly built.
I focused on the indelible female spirit for this work, illustrating the history of incredible strength and fortitude. I believe the gift of education cannot be taken away from young minds. For this reason, I created the Juneteenth Leading Lady for my children, and I would love to share her with more young minds. She is the spirit, tenacity, and divine strength of women of color. Some may find The Juneteenth Leading Lady to be Mami Wata. Others may see her as Yemaya. She represents our daughters, sisters, mothers, and friends. Many may even see themselves in aspects of her creation.
