Leading Lady Quinta ’May' Maggia McDonald is considered to be a 'Radium Girl'. She was an American dial painter with the United States Radium Dial Corporation located in Orange, New Jersey. She was one of the five women who sued Radium Dial after she experienced radium poisoning. Quinta's sister, Mollie Maggia, was the first known woman to die of radium poisoning. Three of the Maggia sisters worked for the company, and all three became victims of radium poisoning.

It is important to learn our history, even when it is difficult to do so.
The Leading Ladies Radium Girls series is a capsule collection created to honor the many women who lost their lives and health to radium. These women bravely shared the truth of what happened to them. Many were never compensated and spent years of their lives experiencing health complications due to exposure to radium from time working at U.S. Radium and Radium Dial. All artwork is the creation of InterArtist Jen Haefeli, Wild Root Creations®.
